What is ILIAS?
ILIAS [1] is the learning platform of the FH Vorarlberg. All courses at the FH Vorarlberg are organised via this learning platform. ILIAS is a powerful and flexible tool for digitally supported teaching, learning and collaboration and is widely used both at universities and in companies. Teachers can combine a variety of ILIAS objects in their courses according to individual wishes and needs. In this introduction, you will learn the most important basics of using ILIAS.
- ILIAS offers a range of tools and functions for the digital support of courses, for example:File management
- Group mails
- Forums
- Submission tool
- Digital tests and exams
- Voting (also ‘live voting’)
- Surveys
- Creation of online content (as a wiki, blog, ‘online book’, photo gallery, etc.)
- Collaborative work on text documents (‘Etherpad’)
and many other options.
What is not ILIAS?
ILIAS does not offer any functions for holding video conferences or IP telephony. Please use Microsoft Teams for these scenarios.
[1] ILIAS stands for Integrated Learning, Information and Labour Cooperation System and has been developed at the University of Cologne since 1997. Since 2009, the non-profit organisation ILIAS open source e-Learning e.V. has been coordinating the development of ILIAS. ILIAS is open source and is licensed under the GNU General Public Licence.
